Itinerary 1: Northern & Central Thailand
Days 1 & 2: Chiang Rai
Chiang Rai, nestled in the northern part of the country, is home to many wondrous sites. Venture to the architectural marvel, the white temple of Wat Rong Khun, for awe-inspiring monuments and relics. View vivid blue coloring and decorative carvings at Wat Rong Suea. The most famous temple, Wat Mahathat, has Buddha’s head encircled in the roots of a tree. Days 4 & 5: Kanchanaburi
Journey by train from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi, a famous historical site in west Thailand known for the Death Railway, built by thousands of Allied Prisoners of War. On arrival, visit the Allied War Cemetery with nearly 7,000 POW graves, Jeath War Museum to read letters from prisoners of war, the Railway Museum, and the World War II Museum that overlooks the notorious bridge. Retrace the Death Railway route by hopping on the train for a two-hour ride through some of the most picturesque scenery in the country. Walk across the landmark ‘Bridge over the River Kwai,’ which symbolizes the city’s tragic past during World War II.
Apart from its rich history, Kanchanaburi has a large jewelry market and cozy restaurants with authentic Thai food. Have a lazy afternoon beneath a plumeria tree, float on a bamboo raft along River Kwai or lounge with a cold Chang in hand. Tour the ruins of Khmer Temple, admire the massive canopy of an old rain tree that spans over 60 feet, or venture into Wat Tham Mangkonthong’s cave temple, where you will find yourself climbing the stairs to enter the dragon!
Days 6, 7, & 8: Krabi
Fly out of Bangkok into Krabi. Situated on the Andaman Sea, Krabi is famed for its karst formations that border its coast. These limestone beauties, the town’s emblem, contribute to Krabi’s spectacular landscape. Krabi will leave you rejuvenated in all aspects. Home to dense mangrove forests, more than a hundred offshore islands, caves, waterfalls, and exotic wildlife, you will never want to leave! Everyone can find a leisure activity to partake in, be it island hopping, rock climbing, kayaking, snorkeling, jungle trekking, or scuba diving.
Stroll through the gorgeous Thung Teao Forest Natural Park to take a dip in the natural emerald-green pool, unwind in the Klong Thom Hot Springs, or take a Thai cookery lesson with a local.
