Where to Stay in St Barts: Our Favorite Luxury Hotels on the Island

Why We Think St Barts Is So Special

We’re usually skeptical about hyped-up beach destinations, but when we visited St Barts for the first time in 2021, we instantly understood why it’s considered one of the best Caribbean islands for luxury travel. Since then, we’ve returned multiple times. The island has this unbeatable mix of French Riviera charm and laid-back Caribbean energy.

Carl Gustaf – Chic hillside stay with walkable access to Gustavia

This is one of our favorite places to stay. You’re perched up in the hills, so every room has a great view and a private pool, but you’re also just a short walk to Gustavia’s shops and restaurants. It's near Shellona beach club, which has a lively, music-filled vibe – not ideal if you want total quiet, but great if you're into beach energy and people-watching. Bonus: the breakfast view over the harbor is stunning.

Le Toiny – Private, romantic, and built for views

Le Toiny is a favorite for honeymooners and couples looking for quiet. The hotel is built into the hillside and every suite is its own private villa. The beach club is a short shuttle ride away, and the whole place feels low-key but luxe. If you want privacy and don’t mind being a little removed, this is a great choice for a luxury romantic hotel in St Barts.

Cheval Blanc – Five-star beachfront with impeccable service

What stands out here is the service. When we mentioned liking Badoit water in passing, the team surprised us with bottles at lunch. Details like that make you feel looked after. The hotel is elegant, sprawling, and sits right on Plage des Flamands – one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. The setting is a huge part of what makes Cheval Blanc so special: calm turquoise waters, soft white sand, and a wide open shoreline.

Le Barthelemy – Relaxing beachfront hotel in St Barts with a great spa

Le Barthelemy has a chill, breezy feel. The beach is calm and great for spotting sea turtles, and the spa is one of the best on the island. If you’re after something more low-key and wellness-oriented, this is a great pick.

Gyp Sea Hotel – Boutique hotel in the hills with tons of personality

Tucked into the hills, Gyp Sea is quirky and peaceful. It’s not beachfront, and there’s some walking involved, but if you’re okay with that, you’ll be rewarded with character, privacy, and a sense of calm. Think breakfast under the trees, slow mornings by the pool, and maybe a giant tortoise wandering by. It’s a good alternative to Le Toiny if you want a similar feel but at a slightly lower price point.

Rosewood Guanahani – Spacious, family-friendly luxury hotel in St Barts

If you’re traveling with kids, this is an easy choice. There’s space to roam, a big pool, and a walkable rock hike that’s fun for little ones. Two different beachfronts give everyone room to spread out, and the multi-bedroom villas make group trips easy.

Eden Rock – Iconic and always a scene

This is St Barts’ most famous hotel. Everyone from Leonardo DiCaprio to Jennifer Lopez has stayed here. It’s stylish, central, and right near Nikki Beach if you want to go out. Definitely not the quietest spot, but if you want to be in the center of the action, it doesn’t get more classic than this. If you’re searching for a central luxury hotel in St Barts that’s as stylish as it is social, this is the one.

Pro Tip

Rent a Moke for at least one day – it’s a fun way to see the island. Our favorite beaches: Saline (wild and beautiful), Gouverneur (quiet and clear), and Colombier (requires a bit of a hike but worth it).
