Welcoming Luxury: Hotels That Feel Like Home, in Whistler & Paris
Four Seasons, Whistler
We’re starting off by spotlighting our recent stay at the Four Seasons Whistler. What made this property feel so special is that it felt distinctly welcoming — refreshingly different from your average luxury hotel, or even the typical Four Seasons experience.
In some high-end hotels, there’s a subtle pressure to perform luxury: how you dress, how you carry yourself, how you exist in the space. And sometimes, that chic energy is exactly what you’re looking for. But here, thanks to its mountain setting, the atmosphere is pure laid-back luxury — a true home away from home, with all the polish and service you expect from Four Seasons.
What really set this hotel apart were the small, thoughtful touches that made it feel playful and lived-in. The artwork throughout the property struck that balance beautifully, and it was the chocolate fountain at breakfast that fully sold us — an instant hit with kids (and let’s be honest, adults too). There were surprise hot chocolate stations, wine tastings, s’mores evenings, and a rotating lineup of complimentary activities like guided forest walks and fitness classes. There’s always something happening, which makes you feel like you’re genuinely on vacation.
One personal favorite: the dog stick library at the entrance — a display of sticks for visiting dogs to choose from lol! As dog people, this completely did it for us.
Puppy paradise!
Add in heated outdoor pools you can enjoy year-round, a terrace where breakfast is served outside under heaters even in colder weather, and a lobby that immediately wraps you in that cozy mountain feeling — and it all just works.
This is a perfect stay for active families, and honestly, anyone who wants to spend their days active, outdoors, and their evenings feeling deeply cozy, inside.
Chateau Voltaire, Paris
In keeping with the theme of welcoming, lived-in luxury, there’s a Paris hotel that fits the bill perfectly. Château Voltaire feels like a chic home away from home in one of our favorite cities in the world. With just 32 rooms, it’s an intimate property, ideally located near Opéra Garnier and wonderfully central.
Our team has deep roots in Paris. Our founder, Arlette, grew up there, and our Head of Operations, Wahid, lived and worked in the city for many years — so we know Paris hotels very well. What makes Château Voltaire stand out is that it isn’t overtly luxurious, and that’s part of the charm. The focus is on thoughtful design and an elevated, residential feel rather than grandeur. Add in an absolutely charming bistro and terrace that feels effortlessly Parisian, and you have a hotel that’s as comfortable as it is stylish.
This is a perfect choice for a shopping-focused Paris stay near the iconic Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré or for anyone who loves design-forward hotels that feel personal and unfussy.
